Dear Americans,
You have taken the time to open my blog because in some form or fashion, you care about what I have to say, so I ask that for the next few paragraphs, you read with an open mind, an open heart and a loving spirit, no matter who you voted for. For those who are first time readers of my blog, I am an 18 year old, Music Education Major at the University of Mary Hardin- Baylor. I am a devoted Christian, which partly explains why I am at a southern Baptist University. I am a millennial and I voted in my first election on Tuesday. I, for many many weeks, contemplated actually voting. I will admit, I wasn’t really for either candidate, neither of them are really rays of sunshine and they both have flaws. They both have things that I disagree with, so I really struggled. However, after finishing a quiz at school, I drove 45 minutes to my hometown of Cedar Park, Texas and casted my vote. They all clapped for me and y’all, I even got a little “I Voted” sticker! So cool. Anyways, that's not what this is about so let me get to my point. Jeremiah 17:5-8 says “ thus says the Lord: Cursed is the man who trusts in man and makes flesh his strength, whose heart turns away from the Lord. He is like a shrub in the desert, and shall not see any good come and shall dwell in the parched places of the wilderness, in uninhabited salt land. Blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord, whose trust is the Lord. He is like a tree planted by water, that sends out its roots by the stream and does not fear when the heat comes, for it leaves remaining green and is not anxious in the year of drought, for it does not cease to bear fruit” (ESV). This is a verse that, no matter if you supported Trump or Hillary, should comfort you and also put you on fire! Y’all, at the end of the day it didn’t matter who we elected into the Oval Office, it matters that we remember who is the creator of us and who is the king above all kings. The Lord keeps his promises to us, he cares for us and he loves us so much and as long as we trust in him and continue to cry out in prayer to him, our country has nothing to fear. However, we are a divided nation and this is not what we need. Right now, we need to put aside our political differences and pray. Let us NOT allow the devil to do his works on the Lord's land, because if we stand divided he will. You may call yourself a democrat or a republican or a third party but we are all on the side of Jesus Christ. I trust and I believe wholeheartedly that Jesus is my Lord and savior and that especially after this election, God is present and loving and he is healing us! Sorry, didn’t mean to get all preachy on ya there. I hope I didn’t scare you off. Here’s my point. Right now, we are a nation divided and that is why we are weak. We are not weak because all of you think Trump is a racist bigot, or that Hillary is a ignorant, lying criminal. We, the citizens, are America. If we are united with God as our king, we have nothing to fear. Matthew 7:24 says “So, brothers, in whatever condition each was called, there let him remain with God.” Friends, let us all remain with God. Let us stop the hate, let us lift eachother up with love and humility and remember that we are all children of God, we are the children of our Lord before we are supporters of any candidate or presidential party. I am a child of God, I stand for the work of the Lord, not the work of man. So, I encourage us all to pray, pray for Donald Trump. Pray that he is granted wisdom and compassion to lead our country into something that glorifies the Lord. Remember the love that Jesus has for you and for everyone around you regardless of gender identity, sexual preference, or race. Jesus died for EVERYONE so that all of us may be saved and live with him forever! That is a fact that is to be celebrated!! Philippians 4:13 declares “I can do all things through him who strengthens me.” and this could not be more true. Let us all pray together for peace and for God’s grace on this land, may we selflessly pray for our 45th president. May we join together in fellowship and no longer let temporary politics divide our nation, because we are “ONE nation under God, we are one and indivisible” (yes I know I just quoted the pledge of allegiance). I love my Nation, and I love the people in my nation. We are kids of the Lord and it’s time we join hands and act like it. I love my readers, thank you so much for your support and your love and for encouraging me to be bold no matter the fears I may have prior. Thank you endlessly. I love you. Thank you again. Lilly.
